The Australia China International Film Festival (ACIFF) unveiled its highly anticipated new host city – Adelaide, South Australia – during a prestigious press conference held at Langyuan Station Orange Space on 25 April, 2024 as part of the Beijing International Film Festival.

and tourism. The announcement was covered extensively in Chinese media including Xinhua News attracting significant international attention, marking a significant milestone for the film industry as ACIFF prepares to inspire audiences in Adelaide for the first time from 14 – 17 November, 2024.
Adelaide, and The Festival State of South Australia, is the ideal host for the fifth ACIFF in 2024 as this year commemorates the tenth anniversary of the sister city relationship between Adelaide and Qingdao, forming the perfect platform for fostering further collaborations with Shandong Province.
Distinguished guests attended the announcement, including ACIFF Chairperson Shelly Yu, who emphasised ACIFF’s role as a bridge for people-to-people exchanges between China and Australia saying, “It is our wish for ACIFF to continue this year, in Adelaide, Australia’s most liveable city, to boost the relationship between the two countries.”

Through a diverse selection of films, we invite audiences to explore the rich storytelling traditions and contemporary issues of both nations, fostering understanding and unity. This year’s festival holds particular importance, symbolising the enduring friendship between our countries and the unifying power of film.”, continued Shelly Yu.
Renowned Chinese film director Yin Li echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence in ACIFF’s ability to showcase the rapid development of the Chinese film industry. “I believe that the 5th ACIFF will bring more excellent Chinese movies to Australia and get more talent in this industry involved,” said Yin Li.
The ceremony was attended by esteemed guests from the film industry, including Honorary Chairman Liu Xiuhua, former Deputy Director of the State Film Administration and China’s first-grade director Luan Guozhi, Vice President of China Film Directors Association, actress Ms. Du Juan, investors, producers, and other luminaries. The ACIFF also has unconditional support from Huang Xiao Ming, former SA Global Tourism Ambassador who was also born in Adelaide’s sister city Qingdao in Shandong Provence.
The ACIFF Chair took the opportunity to extend invitations to numerous high-profile celebrities and industry and business leaders including Wu Jing (known as Jacky Wu) and Shen Teng and formalise partnerships including a strategic partnership agreement with Shandong Times Film Company and another with Shandong Cultural Tourism Group both of whom intend to support and promote the event heavily.
ACIFF 2024 promises to be a cultural extravaganza celebrating the best of Australian and Chinese cinema, fostering collaboration, and showcasing diverse talent. With a stellar line-up of screenings, professional development, and networking events, ACIFF aims to deepen cultural understanding and strengthen bilateral ties between Australia and China.
